Yamaha Outboards Sponsors Redfish Tour
To Boost Popularity of Inshore Angling
KENNESAW, Ga., 1/704 — The Inshore Fishing Association announced today
that Yamaha Outboards will sponsor The Redfish Tour, its popular series of
inshore catch and release fishing tournaments effective January, 2004.
Dale Barnes,
Yamaha’s marketing division manager, said of the new partnership, “The Inshore
Saltwater Redfish Tour is an excellent match for Yamaha owners and enables us
to bring more quality fishing challenges to them and others. Yamaha has a
reputation of supporting fishing and boating events that give its owners and
others more opportunities to enjoy the boating lifestyle.”
“Redfish are
exciting gamefish and a challenge to catch. Many call it the equal of
freshwater bass angling.”
The Redfish Tour Pro
events are limited to 115 two-angler teams and use artificial lures only. These
two-day tournaments will be held in Florida and Louisiana in 2004, with the
first tournament to be held March 5-6 in Lafitte, La., concluding in the
Superdome. Also in 2004, the Redfish Tour will introduce the Texas Draw
Series. For the local angler, the Redfish Tour offers a series of one-day
tournaments from South Carolina to Louisiana.
Yamaha
joins Ranger Boats as a key sponsor in the Redfish Tour. Ranger’s Bart Schad
noted, “We’re very excited that Yamaha has joined with us as a sponsor. Their
credibility and leadership position in saltwater angling and aggressive
marketing is going to be great in raising the Tour to the next level.”
Based
in Longwood, Fla., the four-year old Tour will again cap its year-long season
with a Redfish Tour Championship, to be held November 5-7. The
Championship qualifiers will compete with one another for more than $103,000 in
cash and prizes.
Jim Armstrong,
President of the tour said, “It’s a thrill for us to have Yamaha as a sponsor.
No other outboard comes close to Yamaha either in performance or support of the
fishing lifestyle, especially tournament angling.”
