Millennium CCA Hall of Fame Award Given to Mercury Marine
The Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) presented their first ever Millennium Hall
of Fame Award to Mercury Marine on June 1, 2001. Mercury was singled out for its
support of CCA efforts since 1987 in which they have provided nearly $1,000,000 in cash
and product to the not-for-profit organization.
The Houston, TX based CCA has over 90,000 members in every coastal state from Texas
to Maine and is dedicated to the conservation of the saltwater marine resource and
improvement in fish habitats and fisheries. The CCA was instrumental in implementing
the net ban here in Florida, and anyone who has fished state waters for several years can
attest to the overall improvement in inshore saltwater fishing due to the ban.
"Like CCA-Texas, Mercury has been a true pioneer in spearheading environmental
efforts," Bill Kenney, director, CCA-Texas, said, "Mercury was involved with the
environment long before it was fashionable to do so. Mercury Marine has paved the way
for other large organizations to get involved with conservation. Mercury's long standing
relationship with CCA has been immeasurable, so when it came to presenting this first-
ever award, Mercury was the obvious recipient."
